As a wife and mom of three, my approach to Cypress photography for families is shaped by my own experience in the beautiful chaos of parenthood. I know how quickly the everyday moments, like the tiny details, changing personalities, and little things you swear you’ll never forget, can become memories. That’s why I love creating family photos that feel like your family. The connection, the personalities, and even a little bit of the chaos deserve to be documented, giving you something tangible to hold onto long after this season has passed. The importance of family photos is something I will shout from the mountain tops; let’s talk about why.

If you’re a mom who has spent any amount of time on the internet, you’ve probably seen some of the guilt-laced memes about taking all the pictures all the time. Not too long ago, I shared one on my Instagram stories that read, “Take pictures of everything and everyone. I don’t care who I annoy by constantly taking pictures, in the end, they will be all we have left. Every photo is a memory- capture it.”
This may be shocking to you, but I pretty strongly disagree with this sentiment. I know, I know! Mel, you’re a photographer, how do you not value photos?! Let me explain.

Photos are important, but so is being present so that you actually have the memory you’re trying to capture. Raising a family means a laundry list of distractions. Having a phone or camera out constantly during quality time shouldn’t be one of them. Family sessions allow you to be fully present in the moment while still giving you something tangible to pass down to future generations.
As a local, I understand that the weather here in Houston is just as unpredictable as a toddler without a nap. For that reason, I like to accommodate my Cypress families with both outdoor and studio photo sessions. Your time is precious just like the memories we aim to capture together. I promise to do my due diligence to make your family photos an enjoyable session.
With me as your Cypress family photographer, you’ll get a good mix of photos. Candid, authentic images of your crew will make up your gallery, along with posed & polished photos. Whether we shoot outdoors, in your home or a local studio, I’ll come prepared with my camera & all of my best mom jokes to entertain the kiddos.

“Trying to find a photographer that can capture the personalities of 4 wild boys year after year is no easy feat. Mel does it without fail every single time. She always has great locations and is super helpful with outfit choices. But beyond that, she’s able to capture my kids and their personalities despite them never seeming to sit still for a single photo. I’ve never been disappointed in a gallery from her and am consistently blown away at how perfectly she shows our family in pictures.” Summer P

“Mel has been our photographer for many years, and I could not recommend her more. She is fantastic with children (even the shy or frightened ones), patient with our family, and always makes sure she gets the perfect shots. We are so lucky to get to work with her.” Ashley B.

“If you want to capture your family the way you see them, you have to go with Mel” Kelly L.

The truth is, that’s just the beginning– especially if/when you add more children to the mix. Family photos are equally as important! I aim to help make the process as seamless as possible for my fellow busy mamas.
