Small Space, Big Light
An apartment might not seem like the most popular spot for a newborn session. While most might think small spaces, I think lots of WINDOWS. There are tons of windows for the amount of square footage of most apartments and that means ample amounts of dreamy light no matter where you turn.
This sweet little growing family of three really made this small space insanely beautiful for their newborn session. The colors and decor work so well together to bring subtle variety to each photo.
When there are huge amounts of natural light, it allows for these detail shots to really come to life. I can take teeny tiny moments like dad and baby’s noses touching and highlight them with all the window light.
I mean look at that crazy curly hair! You can’t see that detail with poor light.
Now I’m sure many of you know that rooms in apartments aren’t exactly the largest bedrooms on the block. Ironically that works to my advantage. That means any window light gets magnified by the walls that aren’t too far away. In these images, I had lots of front light and lots of bounced light to subtly fill the frame.
I also love that this momma loves green as much as I do. This green really complimented their skin color beautifully. One of the nursery walls was a green accent wall, and it almost perfectly matched the swaddle too.
Even for a split second, I got to peep at photos that I took at their engagement session. It’s like picture inception or something. I even was impressed at how the engagement photos acted as added color cohesion for their whole session.
Don’t sleep on these apartment sessions, I had the flexibility to do a lot here because I wasn’t working against dark rooms and low light!
