5 Easy Nursery Decor Ideas (when you’re too busy with your toddler)

March 3, 2023

Okay, you’ve got newborn photos coming up. Oh yeah, and your baby is due too. BUT, you’re chasing around a toddler and don’t have a whole lot of extra time or energy to decorate the nursery. Sound familiar? Yep, you’re not the only one. I come across this scenario ALL THE TIME. Sometimes decorating the nursery just gets put on the back burner. With everything that happens between positive pregnancy test and delivery, forgetting nursery decor makes complete sense. However, I am hoping that some of these nursery decor ideas will be easy enough that you feel like you can tackle one or maybe even two before welcoming your new child.

Baby’s name above the crib

Call it a trend or whatever you want, but this is a definite go-to. I have seen this done in a few different ways. The most popular one I have seen starts with opening up that Etsy app and finding custom-made lettering.

But, if ordering custom and having it hung properly above the crib sounds a little too daunting, another way to make this even easier is just to find name banners/garland to hand above the crib.

Accent Rugs

Rugs can easily decide the theme of the room or serve to create textural interest along with the theme that you’ve already chosen. This is where you can have the most fun and it is SO easy. Like Amazon easy. Just click what you want and roll it out once it arrives.

Rugs can also double as a great play-mat for your little one to spend their tummy time or play with different toys.

Bookshelf or cube storage

I wouldn’t be surprised if some of you already have at least one of these in your home. Me personally? My home has 3. Hah. I love these as well because you can decorate them full of colorful books or place special knick-knacks on top to add to whatever theme you like.

Faux plants

Faux plants are a WONDERFUL way to liven up any space, even nurseries that have no theme. No green thumb required. Real or faux plants are a perfect and simple choice because they are classic and make a room suddenly feel like home. Great ideas for plants in a nursery are:

  • Large potted trees near or behind the rocking chair or next to the crib (but out of reach of little hands)
  • Small plants in a glass jar/pot to sit on top of the changing table, or side table
  • Flower stems or succulents in a pot or vase to add to decor existing on a shelf or atop a bookcase

Framed Digital Downloads

This is where Etsy and Amazon really will be your best friend again. I love this option because it is incredibly budget-friendly, especially given the impact it can make in the room. You can create a whole gallery wall, hang just a few larger prints, or even place a small accent or two around the room.

Start on Etsy and search for whatever theme or design you like. You pay just a few dollars for a digital download and then you can print these bad boys in whatever size you like. (or even a variety of sizes)

As far as frames go these can be really inexpensive and can fit whatever taste you like. I like these frames from Amazon. They come in virtually any size and color and are light enough in weight to be put up on the wall with command strips, making it easy to hang without having to get out your hammer and nails…or ask your hubby.

Easy Nursery Decor Ideas

When you’re in a pinch or closer to your due date than perhaps you realized, these simple and budget-friendly nursery decor ideas can really make a room look intentionally decorated. Which ones are you going to use?
