Tree farm minis are just around the corner again, and honestly, I’m surprised but probably shouldn’t be! If you follow me on Instagram, this won’t come as news, but every year I wonder if these sessions will finally fade in popularity. Every year, I’m proven wrong. In fact, Christmas tree farm minis are one of the most in-demand sessions I offer. They book fast, they stay timeless (not trendy), and families never seem to get tired of them, which is why I’m thrilled to keep bringing them back.
This year’s minis will be hosted at Spring Creek Growers in Magnolia, Texas. If you’ve never been, it’s absolutely magical: rows of different types of Christmas trees, a rustic treehouse that sometimes sneaks into the background, and even a pond with a swing. It’s the perfect backdrop for holiday cards or updated family portraits!
For our minis, it’s just you, the trees, and the camera: short, sweet, and stress-free. (Perfect for families with younger kids!) No props required, no extras needed. Just show up with your planned outfits, and I’ll take care of the rest.
A photographer wears many hats, especially when it comes to outdoor sessions! Alongside taking photos, I basically moonlight as a meteorologist during mini session season. That said, I’ll be keeping a close eye on the forecast and will keep everyone updated. If rain decides to crash the party, we’ll set up a reschedule date. Since I’m also working with the farm’s schedule, reschedules are doable as long as you’re flexible.
Yes! According to Spring Creek Growers’ policy, well-behaved dogs are welcome at the farm under one condition: they must me kept on a leash. Please bring waste bags to clean up after them. And honestly? Pups in Christmas tree photos are about as cute as it gets.
Not yet. Spring Creek graciously opens the farm to us photographers before their tree-cutting season officially begins, so during minis it’s photos only. That said, I highly recommend coming back when they’re open for the season! Between Santa visits, the café, the gift shop, and tree cutting, it’s a family tradition worth keeping.
What should we wear for Houston Texas Christmas tree farm photos?
Wardrobe is always one of the biggest questions I get. Since we’ll be surrounded by rows of green trees, be mindful about wearing green yourself. The wrong shade can create a “floating head” effect in photos if your wardrobe blends too closely with the background. Instead, think complementary tones, cozy textures, and pops of holiday color.
