If you are someone who struggles with printing your photos after a session, I’ve got a solution: photo books! This is a hill I’m willing to die on every time as a mom and a family photographer. Let’s pause for a second and ask yourself these questions: How many photos do you have saved on a flash drive somewhere that have never seen the light of day? What are you doing with the photos that have been replaced in the frames on your living room wall over the years? Ballpark estimate- what percentage of the photos you’ve purchased are being displayed right now in your home?
Family photos are an investment, and not just in financial terms! You likely poured blood, sweat, & tears into painstakingly choosing the wardrobe for everyone. You compared schedules to find an afternoon that everyone was free for the session. Bribery may have taken place to get your children (and in some cases, husband, if I’m being honest) to participate. What a waste of all of that time & effort if the photos you love aren’t being put to use. Also, please remember that accounts get hacked, technology can be flakey, and it would be devastating to lose all of those precious memories. I urge all of my clients to print photos in some way or another, but photo books are my favorite method and for good reason(s)!
When you print photo books, you’re able to print more photos in a book than you’d likely be able to frame on a wall in your home. Typically, you can fit somewhere between 30-40 photos. Can you imagine how expensive the same amount of individual prints would be?! When you’ve already invested in a professional shoot, you don’t want to pick & choose which of the photos you’ve paid for to display and photo books give you so much bang for your buck. (It also prevents turning your home into a shrine for your children.)
Generally speaking, framed photos get updated as your kids age. But what about all of the older sessions from when they were smaller? Those images & memories don’t become any less valuable over time! Photo books allow you to enjoy all of the photos you’ve invested in for years to come without the hassle of switching out prints.
Who needs coffee table books when you can display photo books of your own family instead? This is actually something I do in my own home and really enjoy how easily I can update the photos on display. I have two photo books on a frame rack on my mantle and on my office shelves, and periodically flip to different pages to switch things up a bit. You’ll be surprised how often you’ll find guests flipping through the pages!
When it comes to gifts for grandparents, it doesn’t get much better than books filled with photos of their kids and grandkids! Instead of gifting one or two prints, present to them a hardback book full of your favorite photos. Not only is it thoughtful, but it’s also high-quality and easy! (And who doesn’t love that trifecta during the holidays?)
