Houston Newborn Session with Sleep Trainer Lauren Ayers

September 10, 2025

Earlier this year, I had the honor of shooting a newborn session for my friend, Lauren.  This mother of five (yes, you read that correctly!) is also a certified sleep trainer and the winner of the giveaway I did in collaboration with Contained Chaos! After her in-home newborn session, I sat down with Lauren to ask a few of the questions every sleep deprived mom wants answered.  As an expert in helping exhausted parents finally get some rest, Lauren brought her A-Game with her responses!

Rock the Night- Houston Sleep Consultant

Prior to launching her sleep coaching business, Lauren worked in healthcare for over 10 years. It was after the birth of her twins that Rock the Night was born. “My first baby was a unicorn sleeper, but when my twins came along, I was suddenly in survival mode. I knew there had to be a better way, so I dove deep into the world of pediatric sleep.”

As the saying goes, necessity breeds innovation, and Lauren’s pure exhaustion led her to getting certified through the Institute of Pediatric Sleep and Parenting. Now, when she’s not busy with her own family, she’s helping families in Cypress and surrounding areas get the sleep they desperately need!

FAQs with a Certified Houston Sleep Trainer

While Lauren was a giveaway winner, I thought it would be beneficial for my other newborn clients (and parents in general) to pick her brain a bit about sleep. I don’t think anyone ever recognizes the importance of sleep until you’re deprived of it when you’re in the thick of raising newborns and small children. Lauren gets it, however, and she was very generous with tips to help with sleep struggles!

What are some early signs that a baby might benefit from gentle sleep support?

If you’re rocking, feeding, or bouncing your baby for what feels like hours, only for them to wake up 20 minutes later — that’s usually a sign they could benefit from a little guidance.

Other signs: frequent night wakings, short naps, or bedtime battles that leave everyone frazzled.

It’s not about fixing your baby (they’re not broken!) — it’s about giving them the skills and structure they need so everyone can rest easier.

What’s the biggest difference you see in families before and after?

Oh my goodness, the transformation is incredible. Before, I see moms running on fumes — foggy, snappy, guilty, and just plain exhausted. Babies are often cranky and overtired, too.

After even a week of making changes, parents come back feeling like new people. They’re lighter, happier, and finally have the energy to enjoy motherhood instead of just surviving it. Babies are calmer, more content, and thriving.

It’s not just about sleep — it’s about giving families their joy (and sanity!) back.

What does a realistic newborn sleep schedule look like in the first few months?

This is a big one, because Google (and even well-meaning relatives) can make you think your newborn should be sleeping 12 hours through the night right away. The truth? In those first few months, your baby is waking often because they should be — their little tummies just can’t hold much yet.

What’s realistic is focusing on rhythms, not rigid schedules. That looks like full feeds during the day, age-appropriate wake windows (about 45 minutes to 1.5 hours in months 1–3), and creating a soothing environment for sleep.

If your baby is sleeping in chunks of 3–4 hours at night in those early months, you’re doing great. Schedules come later — right now it’s about gentle structure. Think: Eat. Wake. Sleep.

What’s one simple change you recommend that makes a big difference?

My favorite quick win is making the sleep space boring: pitch-black room, white noise, and a sleep sack instead of props that can cause dependency.

It sounds so simple, but it’s like flipping a switch for a lot of families. Keep it simple — you really don’t need all that extra jazz.

Of course, that’s just one piece of the puzzle. When we work together, we layer in gentle teaching methods, consistent routines, and a realistic plan that fits your baby’s age and your family’s lifestyle. That’s how we go from chaos to calm — step by step, with 1:1 support through live texting.
