My Favorite Places to Take Photos in Houston

July 25, 2025

Looking for the perfect places to take photos in Houston? Whether you’re dreaming of family photos in an open field with plenty of space for your kids to play, or an elegant indoor setting with AC, I’ve got you covered. Based in the Houston area and specializing in natural, timeless family portraits, I’ve carefully curated a list of my favorite locations for photo sessions. (And it includes some stunning hidden gems!) From Cypress to Katy, Spring to The Woodlands, here are some of the best spots around Houston for your next photoshoot.

Outdoor Places to Photograph in Houston

Houston and the surrounding areas are brimming with beautiful locations for family photos, and no two are the same. In this section of my list, I included a variety of outdoor locations spanning from tree-lined city streets to nature preserves, so there’s sure to be something for everyone! And if you need any help deciding which might be the best fit for your family after reviewing the list, I’m happy to help! I also have this blog that is designed to help you choose which type of location is best.

Houston – North & South Boulevard

You know that dreamy stretch of oak-lined streets in the heart of the city? That’s North and South Boulevard. It’s the definition of classic Houston charm. Think shade from the trees, soft light, and quiet sidewalks. It’s perfect if you love a timeless, upscale look for your family photos with minimal distractions.

Houston – Memorial Park

Memorial Park has it all. Tall trees, open areas, water features, and wooded trails make it great for families who want a little adventure with their portraits. Bonus: there’s plenty of room for your little ones to run and play mid-session. (Which is totally normal, by the way, and makes for fun, candid photos of them in this stage!)

Cypress – Cy Hope

A local gem! Cy Hope has beautiful trees, a rustic little bridge, and open spaces that catch the light just right. It gives a peaceful, almost storybook feel—plus, it’s easy to get to and usually not crowded, which is a win in my book (and yours, too, if you’ve ever tried taking family photos with toddlers and an audience).

Katy – Mary Jo Peckham Park

Mary Jo Peckham Park checks all the boxes: a cute pond, walking paths, trees galore, and even a few ducks if you’re lucky. It’s great for playful, relaxed sessions where we can stroll and capture candid moments as we go. Katy families, this one’s a fan favorite for a reason.

Spring – Springwoods Village

This location has a clean, modern vibe mixed with nature. There’s a combo of woodsy backdrops, modern architecture, and beautifully landscaped areas that make every photo pop. It’s low-key and versatile, which is why I love it for my family sessions.

The Woodlands – WG Jones State Forest

Nature lovers, this one’s for you! WG Jones is full of towering pine trees, soft trails, and the kind of peaceful atmosphere that makes everyone instantly relax. It feels like a little escape from the city, and the photos always come out feeling calm, earthy, and authentic.

Tomball – Kleb Woods

Kleb Woods brings all the cozy, rustic vibes. There’s a historic cabin, winding paths, and lots of trees that light up beautifully at golden hour. It’s one of my go-to picks for fall family sessions (but it’s stunning year-round, to be honest).

Photo Studios in Houston

If the idea of outdoor family photos or a maternity shoot in the summer sun is less than appealing, you’ve got other options.  Below are two of my go-to studios for beautiful photos without all of the external factors that go along with outdoor shoots.

Downtown Houston – The Lumen Room

If air conditioning and clean lines are your jam, The Lumen Room is the location for you. This indoor studio in Downtown Houston offers gorgeous natural light, white walls, and total weather control. No mud, no bugs, no heat. Just calm, cozy vibes and beautiful portraits.

Tomball – Celestial Studio

Another dreamy indoor option! Celestial Studio has a modern, neutral aesthetic that photographs so well. It’s an awesome option for milestone sessions, rainy days, or when you just want to keep things simple and stylish.

No matter where you’re located around Houston, there’s a spot on this list that’ll be perfect for your family photos.
