Your Houston family pictures are finished, your gallery has been delivered… now what?
As a Cypress family photographer, I would be doing my clients a disservice by not explaining the post-session checklist. After all, you’ve just invested time and money (not to mention the effort of getting your whole crew out the door for the session). I want you to make the most of it! Here are four steps I recommend you take once you’ve got your gallery in-hand (or inbox).
I get it, life gets busy. You see the email with your gallery link, probably open it immediately because you’ve been excited to see your new family pictures, and download them to your phone. You tell yourself you’ll be sure to download them elsewhere when you’re back home or the kids are asleep, but how often do you actually do that? Set a reminder if you need to because this step is important! Here’s how you do it:
This is arguably the most important step once you receive and download your gallery. (Seriously, do this.) Most photographers, myself included, eventually delete galleries. This means if you don’t have your files backed up in multiple places, they may be lost forever if disaster strikes. Technology can fail, computers die, and then your precious memories are lost with no way to replace them. I recommend backing up your photos in at least two places using online storage and/or a solid state hard drive. If you’re in the market for one, I recommend this Sandisk SSD. These are better than traditional hard drives because they are more durable and less likely to fail! They are a little more pricey because of it, but it’s worth the investment to protect irreplaceable photos.
Photos are meant to be seen and enjoyed! You can order prints directly in your gallery or send them over to your favorite lab. Once you receive your prints, you’ve got countless options to display them in a way that works for your space and preference. Grab some frames and create a gallery wall with some of your favorites. Decorate your shelving with the faces you love most in the world. If you want something larger, canvases can be beautiful statement pieces for above mantles and entryways as well. Whatever your preference, please don’t let your images gather dust in the cloud!
Photo books are my personal favorite way to display photos at home. I love that you can give the entire gallery some love and easily switch out the photos on display. I use a cookbook holder to prop up my albums and then switch the photos for special occasions. For example, on birthdays, I flip to a photo of the birthday boy or girl without the hassle of switching out a frame. They’re incredibly well made as well! Because they’re heirloom quality, professionally made photo books last for years and make great gifts. (Added bonus: if they get damaged, many photo labs will keep these projects saved so you can reprint. It’s like an extra back-up system!)
In case you didn’t know, photo books are part of my client experience! The best part is they can be added on at any time. I love putting these together for my clients!
