Houston Newborn Photographer
I started this blog over a year after taking these images. When I recently browsed through my older work I stopped in my tracks at how much I loved this session. This family lives in the area of Houston that is trendier than the ‘burbs and it screamed of an elevated and eclectic lifestyle. It was so different from some of the other things I had shot, simply based on how the home was decorated. The deep jewel tones and Spanish flare were something I was a thousand percent on board with. It was just the right amount of shadowy without feeling dark and the family’s fun funky vibe made this session truly their own.
Not your average neutral wardrobe
I think the thing that jumps out to me most is the combination of colors and prints. I could not recreate this if I tried for 10 years. The deep green speaks to me (green is my favorite color). Combine that with the mustard prints and terracotta orange and these images are just divine!
I have mentioned in another blog (6 Tips for What to Wear at Newborn Sessions) that a good rule to live by is to create outfits that are neutral so that you won’t steal focus from the newborn. However, if you read far enough (Tip #4) you’ll find that “this is where you can interject your personality a little bit”.
In any case, can we discuss how obsessed I am with this bassinet? If you’ve noticed in my work lately I have been photographing this bassinet a lot more. Mom finally gave me the green light to add it to my collection of newborn props. It is so functional but photographs beautifully.
Big brother was also a huge part of this session. He is a vibrant little dude who wanted to be involved in the whole process. Also, notice the sweet little matching embroidered pjs!
Sessions like these don’t come around very often. This kind of setup looks like I meticulously styled their room, outfits, and decor. I am happy to say that this is all the style of the family and even better this is what speaks to them because it’s their home with their stuff and their people!
